Go karts, axe throwing–Boston has some great spots to enjoy extreme sports as a family. Some kids crave thrilling activities, and we' ve rounded up some of our favorite spots, from Greater Boston to around New England. These axe-throwing, go-karting family fun spots ofetn have added attractions, like arcades or bowling lanes. But the need for speed isn't always satisfied by a video game. Read on for extreme sports and thrilling activities near Boston!

Extreme Sports and More Thrilling Activites for Kids in Boston: Go Karts

1. K1 Speeed Boston - Wilmington

With top speeds of 45 miles per hour, the go karts at this indoor track have been attracting Boston's speed demons since 2015. K1 Speed Boston has two challenging tracks and go karts for adults and juniors. The height minimum for juniors is 48 inches (58 inches for adults). K1 Speed Boston's Wilmington facility also has arcade games, air hockey, and a lounge with delicious grub for before, after, or between races! Note: junior races stop at 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

2. Supercharged Entertainment - Wrentham

Wrentham's Supercharged Entertainment boasts the largest multi-level go-kart track in the world. This "supertrack" has 80,000 square feet of road surface covering two unique tracks. The height minimum is 4 feet, 10 inches for all drivers, and the minimum age is 15. Supercharged Entertainment has more extreme fun, including a ninja course, trampolines, and bumper cars—not to mention a restaurant and arcade!

3. Apex Entertainment - Marlboro

With video games, sports simulators, bowling, a ropes course, and bumper cars, there is a ton of fun to be had in Marlboro's Apex. But the star of the show might be the indoor go kart racing. Heats of up to 10 racers. These are serious races, and drivers need a license or learner's permit to participate—making the minimum age 16 for this indoor raceway.

4. Jay Gee's Fun Center - Methuen

Jay Gee's Fun Center in Methuen (just off I-93) is the spot for go-karting families with smaller kids. Anyone over 54 inches can drive, but kids as young as 3 can ride in a two-seater with an adult in this outdoor go karting track. Jay Gee's also has bumper boats, batting cages, mini golf, and some of the best ice cream in the Merrimack Valley!

5. Westport Kartway - Westport

Just outside of Fall River, Westport Kartway has single and double-seater go karts and a family friendly course. This go katrt track is a local fave for birthday parties.

6. Seekonk Grand Prix - Seekonk

Seekonk Grand Prix has 4 tracks to choose from, ranging from kiddie-friendly to super slick. Check the website for the age and height parameters for each track. Seekonk Grand Prix also has a ropes course and rock wall, making sure the extreme fun keeps racing along. There are lower-speed options too, such as mini golf, bumper boats, and arcade games. Choose between an all-in-one pass or pay a la carte for each attraction.

7. Bud's Go Karts - Harwich

Harwich has been home to Bud's Go Karts for over 60 years, making this outdoor go kart track a destination for generations of Cape Codders and vacationers. Bud's Mini Golf next door is worth the pit stop, as is nearby Grand Slam Entertainment, with its zipline over a bumper boat pool!

8. Crazy Axes - Hanover & Foxborough

Crazy axes has two locations, the original is just south of Boston in Hanover. A second Crazy Axes is located at Patriot Place in Foxborough. This family-owned spot was launched qafter a trip tp Canada exposed the owners to the extreme sport of axe throwing. Kids as young as 9 can learn to enjoy hurling hatchets safely at these spots.

9. Far Shot - Worcester

Welcoming kids 12 and up, Far Shot in Worcester lets families throw axes and knives. As if that wasn't enough, the venue has archery too! As an added touch, Far Shot is free on your birthday—provided you bring five paying friends!

10. Wicked Axe Sports Club, Bar & Eatery - Haverhill

Kids under 18 are welcome at Haverhill's Wicked Axe—provided a guardian is with them at all times. In addition to over a dozen axe-throwing lanes, Wicked Axe has a family-friendly menu to make for a satisfying meal after some axetastic fun.

11. Axe Play - Hudson, NH

Hudson's Axe Play features seven tunnels (and 14 targets) for axe-hurlers age 10 and up. Located just across the state line, Axe Play has online reservations and waivers, so you can get right to the extreme fun! Check the website for kid-friendly hours.

12. Half Axe - Marlborogh

Marlborogh's Half-Axe caters to axe-throwing afficionadoes 15 & up. One upshot of this location, it's inside Apex Entertainment, so the kids under 15 will still have plenty to do!

13. TreeTop Adventures - Canton

With ropes courses and ziplines just a half hour from Boston, TreeTops Adventures in Canton provides plenty of thrills close to home. Climbers must be 7 and weigh a minimum of 35 pounds. Check the website for rules and to secure your reservations.

14. Boundless Adventures - Berlin

Nestled between Metro-west Boston and Worcester, Boundless Adventures has four levels of fun for different skill levels. Kids as young as seven (with a parent) are welcome to enjoy the high-flying ziplines and ropes courses at this Berlin thrill spot.

15. On Track Karting - Wallingford, CT

On Track karting in Wallingford features junior and adult (over 16, proof of age required) racing. Pro Racing (18+) is available for those parents with something to prove. This venue has a variety of clubs, programs, and instruction. On Track Karting also has both outdoor and indoor go kart tracks for Connecticut's racers. 

16. Supercharged Racing - Montville, CT

Connecticut's largest multi-level indoor go kart track is in Montville's Supercharged Racing. Two unique tracks each give racers an 8-minute ride. Riders must be 58-inches tall, but there is no age requirement to ride, although 15 is the minimum for pro-speed racing. Supercharged also has other extreme sports: a ninja course, trampolines, and—our new favorite—axe throwing!

17. R1 Indoor Karting - Lincoln, RI

R1 Indoor Karting offers family racing every day, and kids as young as six can ride. For adults, the speeds of these extreme go karts can reach 35 mph, while qualified racers can really floor it and hit 45. This Lincoln, Rhode Island fun spot has axe throwing (16 and up) and an arcade to boot!

18. White Lake Speedway - Tamworth, NH

White Lake Speedway has a 10-year/56-inch requirement for go kart riders on its twisting course, but kids 40 to 50 inches tall can ride as passengers. This amusement center is tucked between New Hampshire Lakes Region and the White Mountains, and it features laser tag, mini golf, bowling, an arcade, and e-games.

19. Weirs Beach Go Kart Track - Laconia, NH

All drivers at the Weirs Beach Go Kart Track in Laconia must be 16 and 56 inches tall, but kids from 4 to 9 can ride along at "the most exciting go kart track in the Lakes Region" of New Hampshire. the go Karts at this seasonal spot can hit up to 20 mph on an outdoor track. You can also buy a bundle of rides to share with your extended pit crew!

20. Mel's Funway Park - Litchfield, NH

Just minutes outside of Manchester, NH, Mel's Funway Park has been voted the top go-kart track in the Granite State. Drivers must be 58 inches tall, but the kids that don't meet the requirement can ride along with an adult. Mel's Funway Park also has batting cages, mini golf, laser tag, and more.

21. Wonder Mountain Fun Park - Wells, ME

Wells, Maine is known for its beaches, but Wonder Mountain Fun Park might make it worth skipping the sand. The go karts here wind along a 700-foot circuit called the "Snake Pit." Drivers must be 12 and 56 inches tall. Kids as young as four can ride with an adult. The maze at this amusement center is a blast, as are the arcade games and the mini golf!
