10/19/13 - By Sonia Gonzalez

There's a lot happening around town. Westchester Children's Museum is one step closer to opening their doors and we couldn't be happier. Grand Prix New York added a new art studio space to their already fun filled indoor entertainment complex and Westchester County Parks Department launched a new app to help navigate the parks system.

Speaking of Westchester, ever wonder about the many redundant town and village names in the county and the boundaries they encompass? Well, if you've been puzzled about the county map (or if this just sparked an interest), we found a great breakdown we thought was worth sharing. Read on for more on these topics plus details on catching up with Mommy Poppins at Ridge Hill's HarvestFest 2013

Whether you've gotten blissfully 'lost' in the vast and gorgeous Westchester County Parks (like Croton Gorge Park in Cortlandt, pictured above) or are looking to explore a park you haven't visited yet, Westchester Parks just made it easier to find your way around. The Parks Department unveiled their new Westchester Pocket Ranger app available on Androids and iPhones. This app allows park visitors to explore interactive maps, get the latest news on park activities and access other useful information about county parks, all on the go. There's also fun tidbits like their blog which features articles such as 5 Animals that Mate for Life and other nature themed posts. The app is FREE and so far, I think its great.

Westchester Children's Museum, a vision thirteen years in the making, succeeded in securing its future location at the North Bathhouse at Playland Amusement Park. The museum plans to start construction in 2014 with a slated completion in 2015. We're so excited about this museum and can't wait for the grand opening!

Grand Prix New York expanded their facility last month with the grand opening of the Arts Garage. Grand Prix is already teeming with family fun activities from bowling to go-cart racing. Now, on weekends, you can drop in to their new studio which features walk-in activities ranging from pottery painting to cupcake design.

If you find yourself wondering about all the nuances of of Westchester's many towns, villages and hamlets, Westchester Magazine offered an interesting and rather thorough breakdown to help decode the Westchester map in user friendly terms, because let's face it, even life long residents can sometimes get confused.

And finally, we're pleased as pie that Mommy Poppins will be on site at Ridge Hill's HarvestFest on October 26!
