BCM offers spring break fun with a week-long celebration of our amazing planet! Each day features exciting STEAM-inspired programs consisting of dynamic performances, hands-on workshops, and special projects in BCM’s new makerspace, Nature’s Engineers. The week is organized around four overarching themes: grow, sustain, care, and explore. 

Grow: Soil, Plants, and Food
Saturday, April 20 – Sunday, April 21
Learn about the secret life of soil with a music-infused puppet show by Arm of the Sea Theater, try your hand at making and tasting plant-based recipes with Fit N Play Mama, and enjoy a bilingual (English/Spanish) concert by Flor Bromley, who performs earth-inspired songs off her album, Pachamama. T

Sustain: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Monday, April 22 – Tuesday, April 23
Embrace eco-friendly practices with hands-on projects and performances that promote sustainability. Use recycled materials to make inventive upcycled creations at play:groundNYC‘s pop-up maker station, enjoy music performed on improvised and repurposed instruments by Kevin and Rich’s Recycled Sounds, and discover ways of using natural and upcycled materials to create art in workshops with the Friends of Brower Park and With Cues.

Care: Animals, Insects, and Habitats
Wednesday, April 24 – Thursday, April 25
Discover the importance of preserving wildlife and maintaining our planet’s delicate ecosystem. Sing and move at an interactive music show by Ants on a Log and Mélissa Smith that combines bug facts, strength-based affirmations, and a diverse cast of characters, learn about the important contributions that oysters make to the waters around New York City with the Billion Oyster Project, and meet and touch a variety of animals from BCM’s live animal collection.

Explore: Water, Sky, and Space
Friday, April 26 – Saturday, April 27
Explore the different interconnections of Earth’s ecosystems and our place in the cosmos. Learn about climate justice at a puppet show presented by The Culture Tree and WonderSpark Puppets, and discover how real-life scientists do field work in a wide-range of different environments in a workshop with Bedrock Critical Zone.

Admission is free for all visitors during Amazon Free Hours on Thursday, April 25 from 2pm – 5pm.
