New Jersey Weekend Events for Kids August 7-9: Woodchopping, Horse Races, Farm Animals, Bugs, Bats, Frogs and More

Hopefully the rain will stay away this weekend cause there's lots of outdoor fun to do with the kids in NJ this weekend. From the State Fair, to an Historical Farm, horse races, a pond adventure and even a new swimming pool. Check it out.

This is the last weekend to catch the NJ State Fair in Augusta. This is the largest livestock event in the state of New Jersey where kids can see every kind of farm animal imaginable. There are also pony rides, racing pigs, performing dogs, wood chopping events, food, rides, food and much more. This weekend is one for car, train, and truck lovers with a model train shows, monster truck rides, and an open truck pull.

Spend a day at the horse races on Saturday! It’s Hambeltonian Day at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford. In addition to seeing the horses race, there will be face painting, carnival games and rides, a big slide, pony rides, and there will be free bucket hat giveaways for kids. Bring a non-perishable food item and get in for free! Gates open at 10:30am and races start at 12:30.

Go on a Pond Adventure at Tenafly Nature Center. Kids ages 5 and up should dress to get dirty for this search for bats, bugs and frogs at Pfister’s Pond.

Learn about gasoline engines at Fosterfield Living Historical Farm this weekend. Farmers will explain their importance and how to maintain them. Also, the farm has a watercolor workshop where kids can learn about the waterpaintings owned by the Fosterfields and then make their own to take home.

Check out Union City's latest and newest swimming complex! The Grand Opening of Firefighter's Memorial Park is Saturday from 10am to 4pm at 9th Street and Palisade Avenue. There will be free hot dogs, soda, live entertainment and free admission.
