New York City Kids Free Weekend Events for November 7-8: Fall Festivals, Family Arts Programs, Dance Parties and More

You might still have left over Halloween candy hanging around (here’s some ideas of what to do with it), but the monster-filled events have come to an end here in the city. And that's not a bad thing. Fill this weekend with some decidedly Fall adventures like kite flying, chamber music for kiddies, family arts programs, dance parties, and much more.

Meet Mo Willems—Chelsea, Manhattan

The annual Crotona Park Fall Harvest Festival is a celebration of the changing season, healthy eating and an active lifestyle. Along with the typical pumpkin fun and arts & crafts, there will be canoeing, fishing on Indian lake, hayrides, lawn games and more. FREE

First Saturday Family ProgramLower East Side, Manhattan
Artist Urs Fischer has transformed the Museum's galleries into a trippy, immersive environment. Families are invited to explore the exhibit and create a project to take home some of the magic. FREE


Chocolate Chip Chamber Music — Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn Getting your kids to enjoy classical music doesn't have to be like pulling teeth. This fun and engaging concert is perfect for small children and promises a cookie at the end.

Break it Down: Materials & Techniques—MoMa, Manhattan
If you’ve been looking to get your kids into art, you’re in luck. The MoMa has this nifty program called “A Closer Look for Kids” where kids and their accompanying adults engage in discussions and activities with a museum staff member, while looking closely at modern masterpieces and contemporary art. This weekend’s focus is on materials and techniques. FREE (be sure to visit the site for more information)

Recycling Double Header: Clothing Swap/Compost Your Pumpkin—Park Slope, Brooklyn
The Park Slope Parents Clothing Swap runs all morning from 10-1 at the Old Stone House, then head across the street to recycle your jack-o-lantern and help the MS 51 Garden grow, plus a lesson in composting and gardening. FREE


Open House: Young Artists Program—Williamsburg, Brooklyn
program at 3rd Ward, the community art studio in Brooklyn. The Young Artists Program offers free art making activities and refreshments to kids, teens and their families. The Open House will run on two consecutive Sundays, November 8th and 15th, at 3rd Ward's new studio (just off the L & G trains). There will be activities and instruction for elementary and middle school aged students and a soiree style high school aged event, complete with refreshments and hour long seminars in upper level art making - like cartooning, enameling and painting technique. Materials will be provided. FREE

School House Rock Live! Junior—NY Hall of Science, Queens
Watch as your own Saturday morning memories come to life before your and your child's eyes performed by Kidz Theatre. FREE with regular Museum Admission.
