Free Family Programs at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is not just one of the greatest museums in the world, it also is one of the most child friendly museums. And it doesn't end with the incredible exhibits. The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers a slew of fantastic free programs for toddlers and kids of all ages. These are classes turely worthy of the institution which hosts them, world-class art classes for kids available at your fingertips absolutely for free. And they are highly underused. These classes should be packed, but many of them are not even full. So, take full advantage of these fabulous free art classes for kids and toddlers.

All of the programs listed below are free with Museum admission and require no advance reservations. Admission to the museum is free for children under 12 and while, technically adults are only required to pay a suggested donation, a $20 entrance fee is recommended.

Start with Art at The Met: Kids ages 3 through 7 and their adult friends wake up to fun at the Met through storytelling, sketching, and other ways of exploring art!

Look Again!: Topics unlocking the history, meaning, and cross-cultural connections of works of art in the Museum are explored through these morning programs of conversation and sketching by visitors ages 5 through 12 and their adult friends. From time to time, performances enhance this Museum adventure. Look Again! also includes the popular series Curator Contact.

How Did They Do That? Supplementing the Look Again! morning programs (see above), each How Did They Do That? session relies on materials and tools to reveal how a particular work of art was created.

Art Mornings for Families: Offered on weekday mornings in the summer, this program leads visitors age 5 through 12 and their adult friends on an art adventure through conversation and sketching.

Charles H. Tally Art Evenings for Families: Conversation and sketching help visitors ages 6 through 12 and their adult friends explore the Museum's collection.

Hello, Met! Families new to the Museum (youngsters ages 5 through 12 and accompanying adults) receive a warm and stimulating introduction to its encyclopedic collection through discussion and sketching of its masterpieces.
