NPR wants you to vote for Mommy Poppins***

6/6/09 - By Anna Fader

Occasionally I get into a radio mode and I tune in to NPR. Somehow I always seem to tune in when they are having a pledge drive. So I've basically been listening to non-stop pledge driving for the last couple days and it's inspired me (or brain-washed me) into action.

Here's the skinny: Mommy Poppins has been nominated as the best local blog in NYC in the Parents Connect Parents Picks contest. (Cool) But we're not actually in the lead. (Bummer) But it would be kinda cool to win it 'cause I think we are the best local kids blog, don't you? So here's my NPR-style pitch (read below in best Brian Lehrer voice):

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

You may not think much about Mommy Poppins. It's just always here for you, ready to give you all those great little outings ideas that make your days with your kids that much more special. But, if you read Mommy Poppins and feel it adds something to your life, please vote for us. Whether it's the huge giveaways you love or the news or the lists of free weekend activities, or those off-beat excursion ideas...whatever it is that keeps bringing you back to Mommy Poppins, I hope now you'll take a moment to give back by voting.

If everyone who reads this votes once, we would probably come pretty close to catching up. And if you all bookmark the page and vote every day until July 14th to show your support for Mommy Poppins...then I know we would win. It literally only takes 30 seconds to vote. You don't have to enter your email or register. Just click on the link and vote for Mommy Poppins. It's that easy to show your support for the site that brings you the important news about things to do with kids in New York City every day.

You know, I don't really talk much about the work that goes into creating this site, but it takes a lot of work. I basically work on it all the time. Right now, in fact, it's 6am on Saturday morning and I'm working on this really, really long post. And I won't stop until you vote.

Did you know that for the last 9 months, in addition to the great content we bring you every day, we've been working on a complete redesign of the site, with expanded features and information? It's just one of the things that goes on behind the scenes here at Mommy Poppins. We'll be launching that sometime in the next week, hopefully, and we're really excited about it. But we need your support. Click on this link and vote. The sooner you vote the sooner I can stop writing this and you can stop reading it. Really. vote here and you could get back to whatever else you were planning on doing today. Or vote now and I'll go write a post about something fun, like some cool new ideas for places to swim with kids.

Supporting Mommy Poppins is its own reward, but if you vote every day I'll give you a Mommy Poppins umbrella*. It's really useful in the rain even though you can't hold it and push a stroller at the same time. If you vote every day and we win, I will do a special big giveaway in celebration**.

I hope we've given you enough reason to support the only blog that gives you the unparalleled coverage of everything kids in New York City that you just can't find anywhere else. So click here, right now, and show us the love.

*No, I won't

** Yes, I really will

***NPR does not actually endorse this message, but if Brian Lehrer happens to read this, thanks for all you do on NPR. I'm making my pledge right now, really.
