Bank Street School for Children

Bank Street School for Children is an independent preschool through eighth grade school located on the Upper West Side of New York City. The school is a division of the larger Bank Street College of Education, a leader in progressive education for over 100 years. At Bank Street, students learn by doing and, through this process, develop skills essential for success in school and in life. Its dynamic, experience-based, and child-centered curriculum challenges students to meet ambitious goals for academic growth across subject areas and nurtures their social, emotional, and cognitive development. Over time, students build the capacity to think critically, work collaboratively, and understand themselves and others more deeply, preparing them to make a positive impact in the world.

Bank Street’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is reflected in its developmentally appropriate curriculum, which helps students of all ages build positive self-identity and an appreciation for the similarities and differences of those around them. Bank Street supports and facilitates safe, affirming, and collaborative learning environments for all students, families, and faculty. It is proud of the diversity within our community, in all of its forms.

The school currently serves 410 children and includes the Lower School (Preschool – First Grade), Middle School (Second Grade – Fourth Grade), and Upper School (Fifth Grade – Eighth Grade).
