The Mamadêlê Foundation is thrilled to announce the upcoming presentation of Micareta, a lively showcase of Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Latino music and dance. The event will be FREE and will take place at Teatro Esperanza on May 11th from 1-5pm. Hosted at the Esperanza Arts Center, a cherished partner of Mamadêlê, this event promises an unforgettable experience for attendees.

Micareta, which loosely translates to off-season Carnaval will feature Mamadêlê's professional percussion ensemble Arrastão do Dendê which showcases the extraordinary talent of master Afro-Brazilian percussionist Dendê Macêdo. With a career spanning decades, Dendê has established himself as a prominent figure in the global music scene, captivating audiences across North America, Europe, Asia, South America, and the Caribbean.

The event will also feature student ensembles from Mamadêlê Foundation's residency programs in Afro-Brazilian percussion. Students from Lincoln High School, Carnell Elementary and Farrell Elementary will demonstrate what they have learned over the course of their spring residencies.

With the interest of further integrating the burgeoning Brazilian community in Philadelphia into to larger Latino communities throughout Philadelphia, Micareta will also feature Guachinangos who perform Cumbia with a Mexican Jarocho flavor and Los Bomberos de La Calle who will bring their personal brand of traditional Afro-Puerto Rican bomba and plena.

Vendors of food, drinks and crafts from throughout Latin America including Pastelito Azul cake, Pejo Goshini,
Pupuseria y Artesanias, Artesania Mundo de Queen, Centro da Mae Terra and Rei do Acai will be on site selling their wares.

Don't miss the opportunity to experience the electrifying rhythms, colorful performances, mouthwatering delicacies and vibrants crafts of Micareta on May 11th at Teatro Esperanza!
