Many venues offer lower-velocity air-powered painballs that are lighter than traditional paintballs, perfect for families looking for a less-intense experience. Some offer "airsoft" play, which feature light plastic pellets rather than paintballs. Others have "gel-blasters" (or gellyball) for a youngster version of paintball.

Boston Paintball's two locations offer gellyball (for ages 8 and up) as well as for high- and low-impact paintball (ages 10 and up). Both locations have outdoor paintball courses, but the Ashland location features an indoor course. Open play is available from Wednesday through Sunday at the Ashland location, Saturday and Sunday in Maynard. Pricing begins at $29 for players who bring their own equipment. Packages are available for groups, with dedicated supervision included.
2. Action Games Paintball - Tewksbury
Action Games Paintball in Tewksbury features six outdoor lots for plenty of Boston paintball fun. The minimum age is 10 years for both paintball and airsoft. Action games features open play on Saturdays and Sundays (beginning at $10 per person) but groups of 10 or more can schedule weekday visits by appointment. Pricate parties are available, with dedicated referees.
3. Friendly Fire Paintball - Upton

With an 32,000-square foot indoor facility in West Warwick and an outdoor arena in Webster, Advanced Action Sports lets you book parties for gel-blaster and nerf battles (age 8 and up) as well as paintball and airsoft (age 10 and up). The West Warwick facility is open Friday to Sunday, while Webster is open on the weekends, with Wednesday nights available from early April to late November.
7. Xtreme Paintball - Agawam
Xtreme Paintball has seven unique outdoor fields, each with a different theme. Kids as young as six can play low-imapct paintball at this Agawam facility, but they do have to be in a party of 10 or more; Xtreme Paintball features "beginner days" on Saturdays, with slow-loading paintball guns to make things easier for newbies. Open seven days a week (in the summer), this venue also boasts an arcade and onsite restaurant. Pricing begins at $35 for a 3-game package. The minimum age for paintball and airsoft players is 10.
