Two of our favorite things collide in October: Halloween and FREE events in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. With all the money spent on costumes, ticketed events, and parties, having no-cost events to add fun without adding expense is a perfect way to enhance the season.
From pumpkin painting to trunk or treats, there’s enough variety here to justify getting costume mileage on many occasions throughout the month.
Be sure to check out our Guide to Halloween Fun for Westchester Families for other ways to enjoy the spooky season.
It's that time of year, and Oktoberfest celebrations are popping up all over Westchester and the Hudson Valley. While family-friendly isn't what usually comes to mind when you think of Oktoberfest, there are lots of ways to celebrate this traditional Bavarian festival beyond just a pub crawl.
We have rounded up our favorite Oktoberfest celebrations in Westchester and the Hudson Valley that also offer great activities for kids. From pumpkin painting and bounce houses to Bavarian dancing—and, of course, a great selection of beer, pretzels, and bratwurst—these Oktoberfests are fun for the whole family.
So don your best lederhosen and start the celebrations. Find more great autumn activities in our Westchester & Hudson Valley Kids Fall Guide.
If you have a budding ballerina who's pleading for dance classes in New York City, you'll find yourself spoiled for choice, and that fact holds true across genres and genders. We've rounded up 22 studios offering kids' dance classes in NYC. Most of these New York City dance classes offer programs for boys and girls, and, in most cases, kids can study multiple styles at one studio; only a few specialize in one discipline.
For more great classes for kids, including everything from baby swim lessons to gymnastics classes, check out our New York City Classes for Kids Guide and Classes Directory.
Indoor family fun centers in Westchester and the Hudson Valley are perfect for getting kids' giggles out and giving them some quality exercise.
From train tables for toddlers to rock climbing and go-karting for teens, this list has something for everyone, with some even offering activities and dining for adults.
These indoor amusement parks also host birthday parties, and a few even have drop-off options.
The new Fun Max Indoor Adventure Park, just off Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, is an 80,000-square-foot space featuring trampolines, a ninja course, climbing walls, ropes courses, foam pits, ball pits, and a game room. Think Bounce meets Billy Beez meets Ninja Warrior–if you have active kids, you will not be disappointed.
The park is entirely indoors, so it's a great option for getting kids' energy out on cold or rainy days. Parents can relax in massage chairs while their kids play or get in on the action and try the obstacles themselves.
Check out our Guide to Indoor Fun for Westchester & Hudson Valley Kids for more indoor playground options in the region.
